I was wondering myself if it could be the lighting...I dunno

Also, like your tank - mine is only in select spots. However, the qty in those spots is populating more and more

We have quite a lot of it. It does feel like snot when its popped, and they aren't quite as rigid as the green bubble algae. The odd thing - it is only in our sump (dang, I hope that doesn't jynx the tank). And, possibly even more odd, it is only in the two sections of the sump - not the return section, somewhat correlating with light which consists of two 95W white/actinic VHOs which are likely close to three years old (we bought them used, and have had them down there ever since.

Sorry I cannot offer anything towards the aid in dealing with them, but hopefully it might help point in the direction of a solution.
