That's funny because I've had the exact opposite experience, Rio impellers are horrible and I've had at least two Rio 2500's short out in the tank.
One time my tank use to butt up against my stove (lol I know but it was an 8' tank) and had one hand in the tank and the other on the stove that was fun being electrocuted by a Rio 2500
Does your heater run in the summer? Maybe you live up north lol and I paid $75 for the magdrive 12 online.
Even two Rio 2500's wouldn't match the flow @ 5 ft of the mag-drive. Those pumps loose head pressure quickly and have never been good in any type of back pressure.
I ran an AquaC Skimmer for years and went threw a bunch of Rios.

I suggest buying two for extra flow and run each off a different power circuit for extra security. So, if you use MAG do you unplug your heater in the summer? |
