I first got into the hobby with a 14 gallon BioCube & that lasted about 6 months, jumped up to a 29 gallon BioCube and within a year decided I needed to go bigger because that thing was packed. My last setup was a 60 gallon cube and 30 breeder for a sump, it was a sweet setup.

Present day, we now have a almost one year old daughter Juliana & every time we went to her doctor she was really excited to look at the huge cichlid tank that they have. My wife begged me to get back into saltwater, done deal.


I found Esqueleto selling a 20 long BadFish Reef Sytems AIO kit, interesting. I did some research & pulled the trigger. Went out & bought a 20 long from Petco on the $1 gallon days and went to work with this little DIY project.

A beautiful furniture grade homemade stand sets this tank apart from most. It will make an excellent showpiece in someones house.
A 3 chamber sump is plumbed into the basement with a 2 month old eshopps 75 gal. protein skimmer, little giant 4 return pump, 200 watt heater, and a 9 watt coralife turbotwist uv sterilizer with a new bulb still in the box.

I am aksing $1200 obo and do not want to part out. i would like to sell it as a whole.

The light has been converted to the Rapid LED Biocube kit, here is the setup:
24 Cree LEDs
2 Mean Well ELN-60-48P dimable drivers
DDC-02 PWM Controller.

The Issue: HEAT

I first tested the LEDs with the hood on it's back, after 30 min on full blast i smelled plastic burning, and I melted the posts.

I installed Fans, and attached a heater to the heat sink and it is steady at 136 degrees. The tank itself is steady at 82 degrees. The drivers are also hot to the touch.

Is this normal? I was under the understanding the LED's would not be hot like this. I set up a Rubbermaid tub a week ago with fresh saltwater that I seeded with live rock and Microbe-Lift Special Blend. The ammonia and nitrite levels are both reading zero with my new API test kits.

However, a friend thought it would be safer to transfer the livestock into a tub using the current display water. The display water is reading .25 ammonia and zero nitrites.

Given that the ammonia is that high would it be better to combine the two waters to dilute the ammonia and retain more bacteria in the water for the livestock transfer or would it be better to transfer the livestock into the Rubbermaid tub as the water is now?

I really want to avoid as much stress on the livestock as possible. I only have about 5 fish and a serpent star fish and some other live rock with mushrooms. Would a immediate transfer without the slow acclimation process be suicide?
