Bongo Shrimp's 25g Tide Pool
Ok, so I'm starting my tide pool tank. It will be a predator tank with anglers. I got just a simple cheap kit with a tank, filter, light, and hood. The lights are CF for now but I'm 90% sure I'll switch to T-5 since I have an old retro fit kit laying around from my biocube before I went to LEDs. Also will be adding a nano skimmer eventually and a heater hopefully by friday. I really set this tank up solely because of an angler I fell in love with. I didn't do too much planning so I'm not exactly sure what else will go in it. It is one of those things that I'll figure it out as I go. The theme is supposed to be tide pool like so maybe some sponges or seaweed but NO MACRO! 10g Glass Breeder Aqueon Filter (for a 10g, came in the kit) CF T-12(?) Light (came in the kit) ~8.75lbs of Cured LR ~3lbs of Dry Sand Seeded with some Live Sand from a ~6 year old reef tank. Livestock: Hopefully on Friday (if params are good) a Wartskin Angler (A. pictus) Some Hermits A Few Tiger Trochus Snails Some bad pics from my iPhone: ![]() The star of the tank for now: ![]() And here's Waldo as he has been named by the guys at the shop. He eats frozen krill and squid. ![]() So, what do you think of it so far? It's a beginning, I think.

Looks like it's going to be an awesome tank... That angler is quite stunning as well. I think you'll need some more rock or something to camoflauge him though. |

Thanks guys! Mmmmm... No more rock. It's a tide pool. I have to leave some room for corals/sponges. |

Ok, got the T5s on there. I took them from my old biocube hood before I had the LEDs on the reef. They are fine for all LPS and some SPS. They are 20" Nova Extreme T5s and I have four, two daylight and two actinic.

Well, I went to the LFS today to see Waldo but he has velvet now. We're going to dip him this week to see if he gets better but IDK. |

What sort of hermit is that guy? Doesn't look like the normal red legged

Nice tank! Probably too late, but when I did a tide pool, I drilled 3 holes in the tank: One in the upper left hand corner (return from the sump) One in the upper center (main drain, 1", full open) And one centered as well, half way down the tank, maybe a tad higher, but only 1/2" (secondary drain, partially closed. The return pump was on a 12/12 timer, so that half the time the tank was full and circulating with the sump (and the other reef tank on the system), the other half of the time the tide pool was about half full, and not circulating with the rest of the tank. We did ours to simulate Aruban tide pools since we had just got back from diving there. It led to some really cool growths, etc. Anyway, maybe just an idea for tide pool 2.0, just thought it was an interesting addition to a tide pool thread - Email me if you have any questions! |

I thought about doing that but it seemed a bit too complicated at the time. Maybe another time. The hermit is some sort of halloween hermit. I forget the specific name. |

Ok, I just decided to move all my zoas out of my reef and into the 10g. They just never did well in my reef so I think I can save/grow/propagate them better and more easily in the smaller safer environment. So now the zoas I have in there are: Purple Hornets Rastas Nightmares Darth Mauls Emeralds on Fire Paradise Zoas Tubbs Blues LA Lakers Some Green Sparkly Zoas (have a name but I forgot it) Some Palys that have a name but I haven't looked it up yet. (given to me as a freebie) I also have two yumas and some ultra rare Blue Green Purple and Orange SYMPODIUM. |

They're still closed but I'll have pics, probably tomorrow. Waldo's hanging in there. He hasn't eaten in a while but I think he is getting better. We'll see, cross your fingers. |

Any plans on what kind of sponges?

Nothing tall because there will be no room during water changes. Tall stuff goes in the Lagoon for the seahorses. I'll see what I can find.
