Duncan's 10g AGA mixed reef
Hey everyone, a little over 5 months into the hobby, and i finally decide to post a tank thread. I'll try to keep this as up to date as possible. The pictures i'll be posting are phone pics, and the LED tends to wash-out the camera, so work with me here ![]() I'm running a spare 10g I had laying around as my first ever saltwater tank. I'd done plenty of reading over the past few years, and i thought i knew plenty. Oh boy was i wrong. There's no replacement for solid experience, and I find my tank is serving up plenty of that. I've had my mistakes, and my triumphs, and that's what makes the tank. equipment - 10g AGA aquarium - marineland penguin 150 (soon to be replaced by DIY hob fuge) - tetra 50w heater - koralia evo nano 425gph p - aquamedic par38 led (8 n-white 4rb) - aquaticlife 115 nano skimmer fish - ocellaris clownfish - firefish - yellow coris wrasse inverts - peppermint shrimp - skunk cleaner shrimp - 5 cerith snails - 5 asterina snails - several dwarf brittle stars corals - kenya tree - green polyp sarcophyton - green star polyp - red mushroom - eagle eye zoanthid - green bay packers zoanthid - lunar eclipse zoanthid - pink penny protopalythoa - LOTR protopalythoa - unID neon pink/white zoanthid - unID pink/purple zoanthid - unID green protopalythoa - green/tan skirt candy cane - blue candy cane - DUNCANopsammia (i love this coral shares my name) - red monti cap - ORA greentip birdsnest FTS 5/14/12 |

yeah. i have some bulkheads coming into mothers reef on wednesday. i built an acrylic fuge that im going to use to house the skimmer and heater. I'll be removing the HOB filter (that i already took the bio 'nitrate wheel of death' out of) and i'll be placing the chaeto i currently have in the display into the fuge with some LR. just going to plumb a maxijet i'll house in the fuge into the bulkhead with a connected 90 elbow into the tank. sheesh. i wish i would have just run an aquaclear mod. Also, i have a 40g long in my living room. just waiting on my glass-holes overflow. I'm excited... now to work on finding a way to build a stand... |

pine plywood and some 2x4 and you will have a stand in no time easy to build just look at 1 at the store and take pics with your phone if u have 1 and go from there

Get ahold of Mike. I am sure he will help you build a stand. It is not hard. Your nano looks really good. You have a lot of stuff packed in there, but it all looks happy and healthy. Good job. Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express |

haha and yeah, its a touch crowded. that's why im excited to get this 40 going. since i have a 10 running with a fuge and skimmer of its own, i think i'll run this as a QT, and i'll drill another, probably, for frags and the like, eventually.

Sounds like a plan. I am a firm believer in the use of QT. I have lost some livestock in QT, but my display tank inhabitants have been so much healthier for it. Sounds like you have a good plan for the 40 going. Any word on when the Glass Holes shipment will be in? Let me know if you need a hand drilling the tank, plumbing, etc. |

it's the par38, to the eye it appears to be a really good balance of light with slightly more intense light toward the center and lower in the corners, works alright for low light/high light situations. the iphone camera, strangely, REALLY picks up on blue hues, and makes it appear as if the color difference is that drastic. haha. ah well. still kinda wish i did a rapid LED kit for a more customized look, and this this par 38 would be better over a 5.5 aga |
