| | | LED nano cube
Has anyone seen the LED nano cube in person? Does anyone have any experience with it? We have been considering making the purchase but were hoping to get some reviews first. Any feedback you have would be helpful. Thanks!

They have one (empty?) at oceans and seas in Roseville.
They opened the hood and turned on the lights while I was there once. Luckily, they warned everyone to look away first.
Huge amount of light. Couldn't look at it.
However, I'm skeptical that it's the right spectrum. but I haven't done any research. May be fine for lower light corals, but not SPS. I don't know. Time will tell if this is practical or a fad.
In the mean time, the price tag is just too high for an experiment.
If you want to see one, give Oceans & Seas a call to see if they still have one on display.

I'm adding LEDs to my tank as a suppliment. To make a more even transition from light to dark and dark to light but I would be hesitant to use them as the only light source. It seems like you can either get white or blue. There doesn't seem to be a lot of choices in between. It might work if you mixed the white and blues together though.

I'm not familiar with the brand of LEDs that JBJ is using (maybe evilc66 is and he could chime it), but the PAR from a 3W LED array is sufficent for hard and soft corals.
The light spectrum, to an extent, does effect the PAR, but with LEDs the combination of white and blue LEDs is for esthetics.
Ultimately, it's probably a kick *** light, but it's also something you could build yourself as a DIY retro fit and save some money.
Good Luck.

I saw the one at Oceans and Seas and it had SPS in it. It was very nice looking.

From what I read, the 25 led's are 14k which will have a very good color spectrum. Plus it has the additional actinic led's.

Good Luck. | +1
I keep pretty much everything under AI LEDS using the new 3 watt CREE g's, The light is much brighter than portrayed in the photos, I had to underexpose to keep from washing out the images.
The actinic blue provides a lot of "pop" - It's nice being able to instantly adjust the color with the turn of a dial
I'm totally LED now using Evils PAR38 to light a small frag tank in my sump |

Rick | DT 39 gallons - 24X20X20 (although I use a DSB, so sand bed is really about 15")
Sump - 20X11X13 - 12 Gallons
I don't have any pics of *just* the LEDS, but there are many on Google aquaillumination - Google Search (The newer generation of AI using Cree G's are those in White.)

Rick | Currently I'm using the stock rails. Waiting for the hanging kit to be delivered.
Here's a photo that shows the lights/rails better. |

Rick | The newest generation just began shipping and there may be a waiting list. There are a few retailers that handle them, I purchased through ReefGeek > Aquarium Supplies for Marine, Reef, and Saltwater Aquariums.
More info and specs are available at AquaIllumination |

thats one expensive price tag..of course you have to throw in how many bulbs you would replace of fixtures you would buy in that 10 year period..if the bulbs actually last 10 years..
