Default I kind of think I already know the answer but just wondering......lighting.

I think I know what the answer is already but thought I would ask. I used to have turtles and I still have a heat lamp from them. I am guessing coral uses a different spectrum to grow than the heat lamp would provide. I just thought I would ask though. Also do you think there would be maybe a different type of bulb I could put in it for coral?

your right about the heat lamp, it only provides heat, for corals you can get a 6500k or higher bulb for that fixture and it should work. i might be wrong but others will chime in.

hope im right!!

I wonder if they would have 10000k because 6000k isnt good for growing much coral. I wonder if I could screw in a metal hailide bulb into it?

I dont think a MH bulb will work, due to the fact that the bulb uses a ballast, and the ballast has an ignitor that starts the buld and heats it up

No you cannot use a halide bulb in the lizard light!!!! I have reptiles and have the lamps as well. It isn't the same spectrum used for corals.

There are no standard socket light bulbs that will work in reptile fixtures that will work for corals. They do sell some compact fluorescent bulbs that claim to be saltwater friendly but they will not grow anything, other than maybe being 1 inch away from the bulb.
