Default Pairs of fish who "shouldn't be together"

I am curious as to who has fish that "shouldn't be together" because of normal stocking rules.

I know there are a bunch of people who are able to "break the rules" when it comes to fish stocking, and I'm wondering how you made it work, and the length of time the fish have been together?

Also, I am just as interested in people who had fish seem to be fine together, and just one day turn on each other, because I think those stories are just as, if not more important.

The other reason I am specifically asking is because I really really really want to add another pair of clownfish in my tank (6 foot, 180 gallon display), but not at the expense of any fish. I already have an adult pair of black and white occys, so adding a bunch of juvies isn't an option.... and I'm not sure of the long term success of that anyways. I am willing to set up an additional tank for another set of clowns if need be, but if at all possible for them to live in harmony, that would be my first choice. So if you specifically have a clown success, or failure, that would be extremely beneficial to me personally

I have a breeding pair of ocellaris in my 5 foot 187 gallon tank, along with an adult female cinnamon clownfish. There is a large group of blue devils and yellow tail blue damsels, and the clowns would rather keep them in control than harass each other.

Well I had a pair of occy clowns that wouldnt look at an rbta, I added a pair of real little perc clowns that hopped right in, and yep the occy clowns wanted it right away. I evicted the occies.

I would add that no tangs into a tank that houses a powder blue, powder brown, clown or sohal tang, hippos are bad also. They can be last in, with other tangs, but nobody after.

I have 2 reglular tank bred ocellaris, 2 black, and the 2 cinnamon blue stripe clowns. NO ANENOME though. The blacks and regulars have been together for a year, no fighting what so ever. Some people think I'm an jerk and selfish and actually recieved some flack from keeping these together, but it is working. Have tons of live rock and no aggresiveness at all.

Edit- When I did have an anenome, it was aggressive city. Took it out, they actually school together

Well if it works why would you be jerk? Tell them to go pound sand. I mean really clowns only use about one cubic foot of real estate. As long as they dont want to kill one another who cares.

+1 haven't you ever seen nemo? clowns are afraid of everything, lol. but no really some of don't care what others do to their tank, if you have a bunch of clowns and everything is good by you, great.

This is going to sound crazy, but I was at a restaurant that had 3 clowns in a fifty gal setup in the lobby. I inquired if they had any problems with two sets, and they said they put both sets in at the same time and hadn't had any issues (4th clown jumped into HOB then the floor, or mayhap it ended up on the Specials Menu for the night).

I'm just curious if anyone has had egg laying clowns with more than just the 2 in the tank. It seems to be where most people seem to think that's where the tipping point will be, even if there were no prior problems whatsoever. So I'm really trying to see if anyone has actually gotten to this point with 3 or more clowns in a tank.

This thread reminds me of "tanked" what do you mean I can't put 100 fish together

Seems to me clowns are pretty mean and territorial and from movies like finding nemo people all think there the nicest little fish in the world, lol

I only have a mated pair of Ocellaris they stay in the back corner but I could see them being aggressive to a second to new clowns although I only occasional see them being nippy towards the trio of chromis's when they get too close but I don't really know how aggressive they would be to actually chasing new clowns all around the tank or only when they invaded there space.

I had a Sohol, Purple, and Sailfin Tang all in my 8 foot tank and that was a consent battle royal of the Purple chasing the Sailfin and the Sohol chasing both of them. The Sailfin was a pretty big dejardini and he would put his sail up and go round and round with the sohol about a 15 incher, it was quite the site and this went on for a couple years.

Unfortunately lost the group during the big power outage a bunch of years back

My clowns live in their gsp and Duncans all day and night. If I get anywhere near them they hit me with their tails. Off topic, but funny.

My black occys do host, but unlike a lot of clownfish i have Seen in the past who seem to stay right next to their nem all day, mine roam the tank. So I'm pretty sure they think the whole area is theirs. The male and female also sleep in different anemones at Night...... Not sure if anyone else's pair do this or not? Then again, the male is always checking out the female bellus angels..... So maybe hes just constantly in the "dog house!"

My pair never hosted and I don't even have a nem for them anymore, and they don't roam either they just stay in there corner in the back and even when there's eggs they attach them to the wall right where they stay....

When one does venture even half way I'm like hmmm wonder what the heck is going on, even when I switched tanks they just picked a spot instantly, and it was there new spot

Well I once had 3 clowns. 2 Orange Occy and 1 Black Occy. THey all got along fine. As far as right now, I have a powder blue, hippo and sohal all in the same tank. They arent best friends, but they all tolerate each other.
