Default fragging star polyps

I have an opportunity to purchase a green star polyp colony from a LFS, and a friend and I want to split it in half. The only problem here is that I have no idea what they are attached to, and I have never done this before. Can the rock be split with a hammer/chisel or do the polyps need to be removed first?
Any help is as always appreciated.[D]

They are pretty durable. IMO, you can either break it in half and kinds glue down what tears and is hangin off. Or just rip some off and glue them to a new piece of rock or whatever...

I guess I will have to give it a try then. If they are THAT hardy, how can I go wrong? (!!!!)

I'll be careful. Thanx for the info!

Well, I have decided NOT to frag this particular piece at this time. It fits so perfectly into a niche off one corner of my rock....I can't bring myself to break it up. Maybe once it grows a bit and fills in and around the rocks, then I will break up some pieces to trade or move around. Thanx to those who offered suggestions for this though. We'll see in the near future how things work!

i usually place a frag on a nice rock. then as it spreads out i take the main frag out and move it to another piece. it will spread very fast if you do it this way.

Thanx again. hopefully this one can fill-in the empty spaces on this rock, then I can switch it around, or frag-out the original for trades. We'll see! Thanx again, Will.

use an X-acto. youll get a nice clean cut.

star polyps grow like weeds. i mean weeeeeeds! high lighting is the key.

i'll have a good 5-10 colonies to bring with me to Neo's frag meet. send me an email if you want to reserve a piece.
