FileFish + Reef =

I have a Tassled FileFish that has been in a tank with Sponges and some polyps for about 8 months now. The Tassled File has not touched a thing in there.

My original plan was to set up the 300 and put him in the 90, but I am comsidering putting him in the 300 Reef instead. I will not put any Snails, Shrimps, Crabs or urchins in with him.

Tank mates will be
Kole Tang
Blue Tang
Twin spotted Hogfish
2 Pajama Cardnals
maybe the 2 clowns and haddoni < I might put them in his tank < still undecided.

I can always move him into the 90 if there is a problem, but wanted to avoid 2 moves on him, and having to catch him.

Should I try him in a complete reef tank?

If so would you put him in 1st or last?

Or would you go with the original plan?
(Tassled in the 90 and shrimps, crabs, & snails in the 300)

Any advice or experience with Filefish in a reef would help.

Thank You,
Kaye

I had a Tassled Filefish for over a year in my 90G. I had several snails, hermits, and an emerald crab in there with it also. Never had a problem with anything. I did have 2 peppermint shrimp disappear, after I put them in the tank. I never actually saw the filefish eat them, but knowing their reputation, it is a safe bet it did. Add a snail and crab into the tank the filefish is now and see what happens. That way you will know if yours can be trusted. I know others might not agree with this experiment, but that is what happens in nature.

I would not trust him with shrimp but I do have hermits in with him right now and he is fine with them. But he loves ghost shrimp and can eat 10 in a row. I have alot of Zoos and Ricordias that will be in with him, would you put him in before the corals or the corals first?
And did you have any corals in with your tassled?

No I didn't have any corals in there with him at all. What I would do if it was me is to take a small frag of your shrooms and zoos, put it in there with the filefish and see what happens. It would be better to lose one small frag then your main pieces.

I don't know if you have room or not in your tank, but I had a nice size area about that was all carlupa(sp.) and my filefish loved swiming in and out of it. It looked really cool to watch it doing this.
