Default Black Diamond Sand silica free

Tractor SUpply Company has some black sand by Black Diamond. Has anyone used this stuff or is it not good to use?

Default Black Sand

Try the vinegar test. Put a little vinegar on it, and if it is calcium or aragonite based, it will sizzle. Silica based sand won't.

Wow never heard of that! I will buy a bag and try it out. Thank you MyNemesis! It's one of my favorite stores besides Home Depot and I just hate having to go back there again!

I was going to do black sand but I decided against it as black sand absorbs light not reflects it. so high light corals like sps tend to bleach out underneath corals look cool in it though.

I thank you labman! I never thought of it that way, knew that about the light reflectivity, but didn't come to my mind. I was thinking of using it in a nano and in my fish only. I will skip out on the nano with it now. I want to have corals in it so want to go with the aragonite now, thank you for reminding me of that scientific fact.

Default another thought

Fiji pink sand would be a great choice sand is honestly better then aragonite if I could redo tank I'd go with the Fiji looks great too.
