I'm with you here, Jeff. I have two for each tank and one for each sump. A couple of years ago a buddy brought his air pump over and saved my dying mother clown that still lives and lays eggs. I have these hooked up to a ups so when the maxi jet runs out, the air pump kicks in.

I change the batteries in these once a year and make sure they're higher than the water they're helping so they won't siphon.

Battery powered air pumps(i have 6 of them) and 4 space blankets. My tank is in the basement and it is 60 degrees all year around so when the power goes out I am fighting to keep the tank warm but the space blankets work great! I also worry about my drains picking back up when the power goes back on. They do not seem to do that without some help and I dont know why!!!

If you have access to the August online issue of TFH, check out the "Letters to the Editor" for an interesting comment on using a UPS during a power outage...

Generator for the whole house I only wish it was natural gas powered with an auto trip start. I've used it int he summer and the winter. It's paid for itself already with just a couple of outages. No hotels, no loast food, no lost fish, working from home snowed in running on generator is priceless.

Be careful on what you run off a cheaper generator or inverter, the power is not the same as plugging it in.... definetly worth keeping things alive, but there is a lot of stuff that does not like "dirty power." A generator or inverter that makes clean power is normally quite a bit more expensive than the cheaper ones you can pick up. I don't have a lot of experiace personally, but I have heard things.... anyone know from personal experiance?

I have all my av equipment on a power conditioner. Good to have one even without a generator in my opinion.

This doesn't sound good, Tal. Did I shoot myself in the foot again by buying these?

You can always have a surge surpressor installed in your electrical panel. It's regulates the voltage. Don't have to worry about dirty power then.

I use a cup. Every 20 minutes and mix the water around and pour it back into the tank for about 5 minutes. Haven't lost a fish, but it does get stupid.

In the past i've used a power converter from the van to power the tank. It works well.

X2!

First thing I bought when I set the saltwater tank back up. The thing is off until it detects a power outage then goes on for you.
