This is my finished project. In August of 2006 I switched from a 15 year old FOWLR and built it into the wall. The actual aquarium is in the garage, in a insulated closet, with the 100 gallon sump, refugium and filter in the basement. The tank is a custom 4 feet wide, 32 inches high and 20 inches front to back with a central overflow. As you can see it is mainly an SPS reef. The main rockwork is two large pieces of lace rock the other 3 pillars are Figi. The design is a patch reef. Much as you see diving in Hawaii. I love to scuba dive and I love the islands so this is my little window to that world. The fish seem to really love swimming among the 4 pillars and a 8 inch brain. Each has staked out their own little territory.
I have finished, if you ever really get there, placing the corals and now I am waiting for them to grow. I hope to get "better" pictures and post them as it grows. I am not much of a photographer.
As of now the paramiters are perfect. My PH is 8.3, Calcium 410 alk 9.5 temp runs 80 to 81.5 and Nitrates ar at 2.7 measured in a lab. It is a deep tank at 32 inches deep and 48 inches wide. I drip kalk 24/7 and keep Cheato in the 30 gallon fuge. It has 5500/g/h of very random internal flow.
Growth has been great. All of the SPS and Frogspawn (one of my favorite) and torch corals have grown quickly. I had trouble keeping Monties early but they seem to be growing well now.
The lighting is a 400 watt Ushio 14 k supplemented by spotlights and t-5. I would like to add another 400 watt fixture and a netune system controller, and probably a calcium reactor in the future. It is hard to keep up the calcium and Alk now. The only other thing I would change is I should have started with a new starfire glass tank. After the main piece of lace rock fell over I have a few good scratched to sand out.
