Fish Dr's is the way to go. The Ypsi store is AAA, I haven't been to the other.

Don't know where at in westland you are but pet solutions is at middlebelt & 5 mile, Both Fish Drs. are the "BEST" ones in the area. I would stay away from any others lol. Trop is well worth a trip (probably 20-30 mins from you.) Local reefers are the best place to get your coral imo. Pm me if you want a few more places.

Its true, buy from your local reefers, cost a lot less and you get to meet nice people.

I think Fish Docs of Canton and Yipsi have a great selection of fish. Though, I think Canton typically has more corals to choose from. Just a bit of a drive for me. I have only been in The Tropicon a few times but, they seem like they too have a great selection of both fish and corals. There is a new store called Twins Tropical Fish on Eureka that looks to be quite promising.
Fish Docs of Trenton can have some nice corals in but as for fish, several always have ICH or something else. I have been to Something Fishy in Westland and Pet Solututions on several ocassions and have not been impressed. Both have corals and fish that look extremely unhealthy, IMO.
I think if a LFS is not up to par, then everyone should be aware and walking in the door. They can then make there own judgment as to what they think. I too think that one of the best places to get corals is from local reefers and getting to meet new people and seeing their tanks is always a plus.

Default avoid

I can tell you that Pet connection on 5 and middlebelt should be avoided, sick fish and dying corals.....

The Tropicon is the best for almost all things....some things are pricier but well worth it....not to far of a drive if you jump on I275 to sibly road.

Local reefers are the ultimate, nice people and great prices/advice.

If you feel more comfortable with a store front The trop is the place to go.

I have had both good and bad experiences with Fish Drs.....I probably wont go back to the Ypsi or Canton store.

I have to chime in here and disagree on pet connection... I have been there 3 times since I started into reefing about 2 months ago, and I've been very impressed, I have NOT seen a single dead or sickly looking fish or coral, in fact I was in there on Thursday this week and looked at every tank and ALL the fish and corals look healthy, sorry if you had a bad exp or seen something that wasn't up to par, I've been into freshwater and reptiles for over 15 years and I've been to numerous pet and fish stores and I can not say one bad thing about PC, great store, healthy looking livestock, staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and competitive pricing

Ps I got a frag of 2 diff kinds of zoas from them almost 2 weeks ago and they look amazing in my tank! Bright green and some beautiful red

The last time I was in there about a month ago, they had 1 angel with pop-eye, 2 or 3 dead various fish: wrasses, clown, and damsels, a purple tank with white eyes and an emperor angel missing several patches of scales and bad fins....been in there about a dozen times over the last 3 months and that's what I saw....they had a large frag tank in the front of the tank stands and it looked terrible. They are now taken down, but dying corals were abundant....maybe I see things others don't....but I won't be going back and it isn't great for me since they are the closest store to me

....as far as pricing goes, I cannot say about livestock $, but when I wanted another tank I asked them if there was a deal for a tank, stand, and canopy they said no....I know better than that so I went to Great lakes aquarium. Their loss on a 1000.00 sale I guess.

The Fish Doctorsicon in Trenton is not that great anymore, new owners the coral selection is small also, ok stock of fish and crabs but not much. The new twins is still not that together yet but they do look promising, they had a shark egg last weekend it was awesome. The Tropicoriumicon is always fun to check out even if you don't buy anything can be pricey tho.
