RO price what kind

I thought it would be helpful if members would post what kind, how many g.p.h price, and if they like or dislike the system they have.

I use a Culligan RO system. I've used it for 4 years and love it. I added a 12 gallon tank so I always have water on hand. They were renting the system for $12 a month (including free filter changes) when I was looking but I decided to buy the system. I've had the water tested numerous times through a 3rd party and it comes back in the advertised numbers.

We have a APEC system from freedrinkingwater.com. Its a great unit. We have had it close to a year. No problems with it at all. We did buy the extra large tank for it, that makes it more conveinent.

Ed is really nice and very helpful.

I also got a booster pump with it.

Unfortuantly, I can't tell you how it works, as they just shipped it yesterday (same day I ordered).

Though, I am sure that there are enough people that have ordered from e-bay, and they can tell you that e-bay prices are cheap.

From the research I've done, you get a great unit for cheap on e-bay. I have also found that the permeate pump doens't help nearly as much as the booster pump.

I can also tell you from first hand experience, that if you have really hard water (like I do at school, 350 ppm) that I burned through a DI tank in about 150 gallons (3000 grain tank), and I really needed to get an RO unit to put in front of it.

I can't believe that those units on ebay work as well as the more expensive ones. I would sooner buy from a local dealer any how. One with standard filters that I could buy at Home Depot or Lowes.

I have one of the Aquasafe units from ebay. I have had it about 3 months now with no problems at all. And the filters are standard filters that you can get any where that sells ro filters.Mine is a 75 g.p.d. unit with the holding tank. It is a 5 stage ro/di unit with the faucet.

I also purchased from Aquasafe Canada. It works flawlessly and uses standard 10" cartridges that are available anywhere. The only ***** about it that I have is the DI filter is not standard or refillable. You have to get these from Ed. They are not expensive tho.

There are 2 basic types of membranes out there.

There is the CTA membrane which is chlorine tolerant, and the Then Film Membrane which is not.

Dow owns the patent on the TFC membrane. Commonly known as a FilmTec membrane. These are the membranes that are used in most residential applications. That is why they come with a carbon prefilter to take out the chlorine.

The CTA membranes as a gerneral rule do not have as high a rejection rate as TFC membranes.

Because Dow owns the patent, no matter who you buy from, if they use a TFC membrane they are all pretty much identical.

Some just mark them up more I guess.....

So look for the type of membrane that is being used in the RO unit and see if it is a TFC. More than likely it is a rebranded FilmTec. I am not %100 certain as to if Dow has sold menufacturing rights to this type of membrane. The last I checked, which was over a year ago, all TFC membranes were made by Dow.

Water Bills will go up noticably. A RO system only actually uses about 1/3 of the water, the rest goes down the drain as waste. Bummer. I don't have a water bill so it doesn't affect me.

Does anyone have any experience using a booster pump and a premate pump?

While I don't currently know my tap PSI, I am on well water and I'm getting a booster pump.

I'm wondering if it will help signifigantly if I also get a premate pump.

Really happy with the replies and responses we've gotten on this thread, but I can't believe out of 118 views only 8 have ro units. I really wish I could get more impute. Especially from the more seasoned members. I really think this information could be good for new members and members that have been in the hobby for awhile that are interested in buying a new ro unit.

I don't have an RO/DI in my possesion yet, but will have one as soon as UPS will get their act in gear.

I can't wait till I get the system hooked up at school. I'm going to run it quite a bit in the beginning. We have 8/10 PPM iron.

Once I have first hand experience with the iron, I think I'll be able to pull the research I've done and put it all together into something useful.

Between, talking to some people localy and ventors else where...I've found a lot of people that don't have a clue, and others that really seem to know their stuff. First hand experience will tell what's really going on.

Hopefully I'll have it all set up by the beginning of next week.
