i saw something extremely cool on here from a sponsor, i went, i asked questions about it and everything sounded peachy....

i bought it (my mistake) before looking it up online...

now, i find out that it is "not recommended for the home aquarium because it can KILL EVERYTHING in the entire tank"

now what?

I think if I were in your shoes I'd call them back and tell them that you just dont feel comfortable taking care of this animal. If they are responsible they will take it back and at the very least give you store credit. Keep in mind that you do bear some of the responsibility for purchasing prior to researching the animal, so out of fairness you may want to ask if they will give you store credit prior to trying to simply get your money back. Think of it as penance for leaping before looking. I know its not easy to exercise patience when you see something really cool that you just gotta have - we've all done it! It sounds like you are a regular customer at this LFS and hopefully they will value that. If not, well, then I would say they are being irresponsible and you may have to reconsider if you want to continue to patronize this store.

Good luck!

Could it be a 'lettuce nudibranch' perhaps, Aplysia sp. or Elysia sp.? If yes then it will eat certain types of algae. If it is definitely Phyllidia then I would return it and calmly explain to the manager why you are returning it and that seeing such animals for sale there will prevent you from patronizing their store in the future. I would just be sure to talk calmly and genuinly and you will get taken seriously.

If it's a lettuce nudi, you're golden (just watch out for intakes/overflows - they LOVE those)...

If it is where I'm thinking of, just tell one of them what you found out, and that you want to return it... They absolutely WILL let you.

Granted, the ultimate responsbility for deciding to take this animal home WAS yours - so they may not offer much more than in-store credit and be justified, but they should be willing to work with you on some level... Especially if they gave weak advice on it (granted, as much your job to know about it as it is theres... Pet Store people are good generalists, not specialists... Can't know the details on every animal they carry, but YOU SHOULD know the details on every animal you buy)

Phyllidiidae are bad pets for most everybody but species tanks and if you have actually narrowed down the diet (some of them you can, but rare at best) and can provide it (even more rare!).

Glad you've been more controlled rather than unloadig on the store - great way to handle this, rather than blast from the hip!

You shouldn't have a problem... If you do, please let the board know.

its settled.. the owner happens to live near me an actually took the return from his home... he handled it very well and i'm very happy with customer service they showed me.

i told him i did not want my money back as i like shopping at his store and would be back in again and will use store credit instead..

very pleased with the result.

i had a super cool critter for a few hours too.
