Just wondering how many people work the midnight shift,I do an I'm bored as can be!Been on it for about 7 months now.It has its pros and cons, but hey, just glad to be workin ya know!

I have been on 3rd shift for almost 4 years now. Will be 4 years in October. Its better than second because I get to see my kids but the sleep pattern ***** unless you work every single day which gets old after a while. But being a mechanic sometimes I am busy all 8 hours sometimes I dont get a single call in 8 hours.

Its weird for me cause i'm usually the only person watching a building that holds 80-90,000 people,I watch over the silverdome,I controll the roofs pressure so it stays up.There is'nt really much excitement unless there is a storm coming......

i work overnights once a week. worked them at a previous job for 3 years. the overnight crews are like a totally different society than the day crews :)
thats cause there is next to ZERO supervision on 3rd compared to first so the atmosphere is more relaxed. Plus with dayshift you have to deal with contractors that are lazy (like I just had to deal with). Explain to me why we have contractors that have to ask me to help them fix something THEY ARE THE EXPERTS ON?????

I love 3rd shift

I have worked nights most of my life. My oldest son plays football and wrestles and my youngest plays baseball. Working nights I can take them to all of thier practices and games/meets. Plus my boss is easy going and I surf the web on my phone. Break is over guess I better get back to work lol .

My wife doesnt work outside of the home so I dont have that problem :D. The thing is it will be about another 15 or so years before I will be able to get to day shift so third is the best for me until my kids graduate.

15years Yikes!
if it was departmental seniority I would have closer to 10 years but being as I only had 6 months of company seniority when I got into maintenance they hire apprentices with 10-20 years of company seniority. So I may know more and might be a better mechanic than those with 13 more years of seniority than I have I have to wait. If I can get into the electrical apprenticeship I will only have 1 person with more seniority than I have but as a Mechanic I have 16. There will be about 6 people retiring here soon on days but that still leaves 10 more people ahead of me. Overall 3 shifts there are something like 40 mechanics.
