Been battling algae for some time and seriously considering an atf. Anyone have one and what's your experience?

Ok so i got this xlarge marineland bio wheel sump on trade and plan to use it on my 180 when i get it set up.It has two big bio wheels in it.My question is should i use these or replace with bio balls instead.I have heard using the bio wheels in saltwater can be bad.
