I am closing down my tank, and have a royal gamma, a chocolate star, serpent star, bristle star, Mexican turbo snails, some hermits (blue and red), cerith snails, a few nassarius snails, yellow zoas on live rock, torch coral, Kenya tree on live rock, austrailian duncans with many heads, medium...
After a few months time I finally added to my tank with 2 peppermint shrimp and 2 bangaii cardinal fish. Already in the tank was a clean up crew of 6 astrea snails and 6 blue legged hermits. Since adding the peppermint shrimp 4 snails have died. I keep seeing the shrimp spinning them around...
I've done the searches. I know what causes Algae. I think I've done everything I can and I still have unacceptable levels of hair algae.

Bought a new GFO Dual reactor from BRS and some GFO. Worked well for about 2 weeks then it started making the water cloudy and started developing brown sludge in the skimmer and tank.
Changed the GFO and carbon and the water got cloudy.
Shut off the GFO and the water cleared in an hour or so...
Can you please take a look at the pics. and tell me what this is? It started on the live sand like ten days ago. When I vaccum the sand, it goes away. After a day or so when the lights are on, it comes back. Now i started to worry because it started spreading all over the sand. Thanks...
