I did something last night and I wanted everyones opinion on. As some of you know I've been waiting for my 300 gallon acrylic flatback hex since earlier this year. The first company took 9wks and made the flatback hex with seams in the front panel. And then said it would cost double to make it that way. That was back in May. The new copany gave the LFS a qoute on May26 for a tank with no seams in the front panel, so I oked that. Five weeks later I asked where is my tank, LFS ttried calling the company and couldn't get ahold of them. So they gave me the # and I tried and finally got them. Their excuse was they couldn't read the credit card # on the fax but they never called the LFS about it. So now the tanks was going to take another 3wks to build. The deadline was a week and half ago.Long story short, I told the LFS last night if I don't get me tank in a week, I want my money back. I thought I've been very patient and civil about this. I know it's not the LFS's fault, but I think I've waited longer than I should have. I just wanted everyones opinion. If this is in the wrong forum please move it. Thanks for letting me vent.

Bob, thats nicer than I would've been:mad:

The can't read excuse I would have translated as"I don't want your business" and cancelled.

(easy to say when its not me waiting on the tank):)

Dont blame you a bit-I would have had my money back a long time ago. I know its not the LFS fault-but-they should have been checking on this and dealt with it as soon as it was due the first time. I believe the "cant read the CC#" was just an excuse also.
And if they cant read the CC# then who's got your money?

You are very patient, would have canceled the order the moment a company said that they could'nt read the cc#'s. Not being able to read a order and not saying anything to the company that sent you the business is no excuse. Only problem is you are still out a tank that should be cycling by now. Sorry you are having this problem I bet if you inquired here, there would be a vendor or 2 on our site that would be happy to help get your tank made. I would expect it to take about 6 to 10 weeks, I use this reference because we are looking for a new tank and that is what most company's are telling us it takes to make a custom tank. Good luck getting it done and please post some pics once you have it up and running.

If this is a reputable, professional and well known tank manufacturer, why can no one contact them? Nobody answering the phone? That's your first indication something is wrong. I agree. If they can't read your CC# then nothing has been charged, correct? They should make up for this by getting your tank done ASAP. But, are you sure you want a tank from this company? If you can't get-a-hold of them now, what's going to happen when the tank comes in wrong or worse-leaking?

Think twice Bob. Maby try someone else or go back to the first guy. Maby he'll bend a little.

Sounds alot like Clarity Plus. They are NOTORIOUS for wait time. One thing to remember is that in my experience, the LFS is not dicking you around, its the company's that really don't care whether you get your tank or not.

The acrylic tank makers optimum situation is a lfs having alot of inventory of standard sizes on hand. More money, less work for them. A custom tank, for some reason causes headaches.

I've dealt with Clarity Plus, (you'd think being located in Grand Rapids would help) Tenecor and even IPI (my new 170 tall arrived with its dual overflow box undrilled, lol) Pretty much the same experience.

I've just learned to accept that if its coming direct from the factory, I've just got to wait it out.

Good luck.

I think your LFS is partly responsible. Not for the delay but not keeping you informed. That's a big investment. They know that you need to stock the tank too. You need to be happy with them.

They should have called themselves. That’s BS that they couldn't get a hold of them. If you could, they could.

The LFS has had my money since the first tank. And they used thier CC for the reorder. I could get a hold of the company but not the owner or anyone that could help me. They were always out of the office or out of town. I guess unless you order a whole store of tanks you don't get good service anymore. The tank is
84"x36"x24" and a flatback hex. The company is a well known co.
I just hope I get it. My dream has turned into a nightmare. My livestock is the ones who really suffered. Everything is in a 150gallon stock tank and 90 gallon AGA with a 50breeder sump/fug. Most of my stuff I haven't truelly seen since I sold my other tanks. When the original was suppose to be here. This 90 is a recent addition so I could see some of my stuff. But you know you can't keep moving corals around and them really liking it too much, so I haven't. Thanks for you thoughts on this. I just didn't want to seem like a pain to the LFS, but I've had enough.

Thanks again,
Bob

Bob, that is totally incredible! I hope your experience is the exception and not the rule.

I would look for reefers who have had good experiences ordering similar custom tanks and consider the lfs/company that they dealt with, if at all possible. Lan
