Hey guys i wanted to get some ideas for fish for my 180 gallon reef with primarily SPS and CLams with some LPS, the tank is not setup, but i have been dreaming about what fish to add and i wanted to run it by you guys just to make sure! the tank should be up hopefully by christmas as i am a senior in high school and play baseball all year, so i have to work when i ca to get moneyf or this bad boy!!!!!!!

BIG THING!!!!! the rock will be about 200 pounds and form 2 island one on each side there will be about 10 inches above the rock for swimming with lots more open swimming room for fish in the middle and in front of the 2 island.

heres the list i am thinking of,

2 ocellaris clowns (pair)
2 neon gobies (pair)
4 filimented flasher wrasses (1 male, 3 female)
1 solar wrasse
1 blackray shrimp goby
1 mandrain dranget (striped) OR SHOULD I GET A PAIR??????
1 salfin tang (desjardinii)
1 powder brown
1 orange shoulder

AND MAYBE a wantabie angel if it will fit in???? i like this fish but i want to know if it would be over kill to add it to the tank!

BUT the tangs are for sure i already had a theard about it on here and came to the conclusion that these 3 tangs will work out! and i already know about the powder brown!!

ALSO are there anymore fish i should add to the list if possible? i like lots of fish in my tank! maybe some smaller ones? let me know!

i just want to know if the list above is ok for a 180 SPS tank!

let me know guys!

thanks!

I was wondering how you could afford all this. When I was in high school I could have afforded it also. No mortgage, car payments etc. That sounds like a good list although a pretty big one but most of the fish on there don't get very big so I would think that you would be all right. What sort of filtration are you using? I would suggest a large sump to get more water volume to handle the load. Also, do you plan on going to college next year because that would suck to get this all set up and have to move in 6-8 months.

Tom, thats also what im wondering, how are you going to be able to afford a large sps reef? I had to end up buying used everything for mine. So whatever came up for sale thats usually what i ended up with. The cs8-3, the geo reactor, the tunze 6100's... i dont know about you, but each of those would end up costing me a month or two working. Are your parents going to be paying for most of it?

I will post the same thing here that I posted at RC.
Genicanthus watanabei can grow to 6 inches.
IMO I would take one of the tangs off the list and put in the angel, I dont think I would add the 3 tangs plus the angel.
Also the angel with the clams is what I would question most, over time the clams may become angel food.
I would find out if the angel is eating prepared foods before you buy it, they need a diet with sponge in the food (if it is eating prepared foods).

hey i would defintley NOT put more than 1 tang in a 90! let alone a pair of mandrains! i am questioning if i should even put a pair in i think i am going with 1!

but defeintly in the 90 do no tput mutiple tangs! or flasher/fairy wrasses! thats way to many fish for a 90!!!!

i am not trying to be rude! but thats alot of fish in a 90 and i have 2 times the water volume!!!!!!

I was at daytonight's house yesterday and he has 4 tangs but I am not sure the size of his tank. I think it was 90 give or take 20 gallons. Also, waynesreef has 4 in his 75 so it is possible but you have to know what to watch for when adding them together.

Hmm... I didnt even notice you had 5 wrasses on your list! Wrasses have always been known to be big competitor w/ mandarins. Even though they are willing to accept preps. no problem, they still like to eat there fair share of pods throughout the day.

I had one mandarin about 2 1/2 inches in my 180 w/ 300lbs of rock, and a dsb, the tank was almost a year old before i broke it down, and i got the mandarin after having the tank up for 6months, and he pretty much cleared my pod population all by himself, and this was w/o a wrasse! I couldnt find one pod at night. After about a couple months of having him.

You may want to rethink that list, and take off some wrasses or something, because there is going to be zero pods in that tank!

maybe i will just taek the mandrain off the list i like the wrasses more!

and then if i get the wrasses to eat more prepared foods and see TONS of pods i will CONSIDER adding a mandrain buti probably wont unless i feel really confident!

thanks i just cant get rite of my harlem of falsher wrasses nobody has then and it will be unique!

and nobody has a solar wrasse!

thanks!
