Does anyone have any experience using the advanced ballasts?

I have one for a 250mh and by looking at the wiring diagram I'm completely lost on this ballast. If anyone could offer some help I would really appreciate it. I should have the socket and by the end of the week.

Thanks

Is it a cap and coil or does it look like a flour. ballast? The cap and coil are pretty straght forward. I have wired 3 of them w/ no problems. There is usually a diagram on the top of the coil, but basically you tie the neutrals (white) together. Black from the outlet goes to the primary hot (usually labeled, if it's a multi tap, use the wire labeled 120). From there, the secondary hot goes to one terminal on the cap, the other terminal on the cap goes to the black on the socket. I can take a pic of mine if you like. LMK.

Thanks Aaron,

I believe I have a multi tap. It has 120v 220v, 240v and another voltage wire.

I'm at work right now and don't remember exactly what wires on it. I should be getting the socket by the end of the week hopefully. Once I do I will send you a message for some help if you don't mind.

Thanks

Hey Aaron,

Ok, I think I have everything now I tried to wire this up with and use my current CoralVue 12K bulb but I couldn't get it work.

I have the Advance 71A3592 250W Mercury Lamp.
(Not sure it the coral vue is the right bulb, I'll check into that later.)

The ballast has the following wires coming out:
1 - 277v
1 - 240v
1 - 208v
1 - 120v
2 - COMS
1 - Cap

The Cap has 2 black wires coming out.
Socket has 1 black and 1 white

Power Cord has white, black, and ground.

Do you know how to wire this??
Thanks

the 120 wire goes to the black part of the power cord and 1 COM goes to the white of the power cord.

the other COM wire goes to the white on the socket.

the cap wire goes to one of the tabs on the cap and then there should be another wire coming off the cap going to the black of the socket.

Yup, Johnny's got it. That's how both mine are wired. I can't post a diagram here darnit.....it strips all the spaces. Oh well, you should be able to figure it out. I can take a pic of mine if needed.

Green from power goes to ground throughout. Bolt it to the coil and metal box (if you are using a metal box). This is a safely issue, so please don't overlook it.

Clear as mud right? Hehehe.....good luck. Are your coralvue bulbs pulse or probe start? If I remember correctly, the older coralvue's are pulse and may not work with a cap and coil ballast (need electronic due to no built in ignitor). If there's a resistor and bi-metal switch (basically just a piece of sheet metal that shorts across 2 of the wires when it gets hot) then it's PROBE start and WILL work. No resistor, PULSE start, WON'T work...at least not consistently. Good luck and let us know how you fair!
