I am having a problem with my tank it started with an excess of red algea that covered all my rock and sand. did a water change and sucked that out as best i could. Now I have hair algea and something slimy in the water that is causing my fish to suffocate. HELP!!!!

I had a huge problem with redish brown hair algae. I bought a sea hare. I had it shipped overnight. It is not very attractive but it eats hair algae like crazy.
^FYI-They do eat algae like crazy, but that is all they eat. It will have to go back/be sold once the algae is under control.

We still could use the requested info for further assistance.

when those die don't they poison the water? I was told by a lfs that if it dies it could kill all my corals as they poison the water. the slime isn't coming from the sea hair correct?

we had this problem at our office tank. wasn't using good ro water for topoffs and the like..... soon as the red algae went away we had a bloom of the hair algae. ours was a phosphate problem, and brand new bulbs i think helped to contribute.

That pretty much says it all. No sump, canister filter, hang on filter, under powered skimmer, probably no water movement = poor water quality and system overload. Water parameters wouldn't be needed !!
