I purchased some cheap fans. These things were advertised as being quiet but man are they loud! So now I am looking for some Ice Caps. If you have any, please email me or pm me. Used or new, I don't care as long as they are in good shape.

i have a 4" fan i took off my old Icecap powered VHO hood somewhere. has all the wiring and cord. i would be interested in trading it for any frags you might want to get rid of..

I am a little short on frags right now as I am trying to add stuff to my new sixty gallon right now. Like a lot of people, I've got a lot of 2 kinds of xenia right now as I haven't traded it in, in a while but that is about it. I expect to have quite a few different zoas in a month or so but if I don't have those fans installed by next weekend, I am afraid I won't have a tank to add fans to.

Oh man, I forgot all about that. I just got done fixing a minor leak which was the second one in two days so I have been a little fish overwhelmed. I will post a pic tomorrow on this thread.

Sherm I have a bunch of 3-4 inch fans they are quitet well they arnt absolutly quiet but they are no lowder then a ceaning fans whoosh I have 4 on one of my tanks and they seem to work well

antec fans for computers are very very quiet. i moonlight @ bestbuy and get them for a couple bucks a piece. work great. and have thermal sensors on them.

Do you have to use an DC adapter for those fans and if you do, what size?

sherm yea they use DC power( computer fans that is) so you would need a computer powersupply( thats what I use) or a regular wall wart( radio shack) 12v and usually around 500-1000ma or Greater

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll go look at them today too. I am going to add a couple more fans to my sump area too in order to avoid the huge purchase of a cooler.

One more question, if I get multiple fans, can I use just one power source for both fans or do I have to use one power source for each. I am sure it depends on voltage but 12 volts with 1000ma should be strong enough I think?

The Orion fans similar to what we did the group buy on a while back are pretty darn quiet. When we did the group order, we ordered the higher RPM fans which move more air, so they are not super quiet, but still pretty quiet.

You can order a lower RPM Orion fan that you can hardly hear at all unless you are standing right next to it. Wayne (a.k.a. waynesreef) has four of these lower RPM Orion's on his tank and unless you put your ear about 3-4" away from it, you can't even hear them running.

The one's we got are a bit louder than that, but still very reasonable in my opinion.

What does anyone else think on those Orion's we got on the group order?
