Does anyone know if you put 2 males in the same tank will they fight???


I bought 2 at the Atlantis Sale this last weekend. I asked for a male and female but I'm not sure if I got a male and female. They swim around with each other and seem to be hanging out all the time.


Just curious that's all.

not sure but I think two males would fight, sounds like you may have a pair or two females, I have been told that you really cannot tell until the male is holding in his mouth. Maybe some one more familiar with the Bangaii will chime in and correct me if I am wrong.

The may fight but if they aren't now, probably won't. What size are they? I might be able to tell you what they are.

My experience is that two females together will fight, as well as two males together will fight. The only peaceful coexistance is a male-female pair.

Don't tell Tropicorium this, I've no idea why theirs gets along so well together.

I have 3 of them in my 120 G tank and they don't fight. Hell, they barely even acknowledge each other

Two similarly sized males might get along for a while in a larger tank, but it's not going to be a lasting peace. In my experiance, the females tend to be more aggressive in cardinals - but you're still taking a risk.

As far as groups of them go...they usually get along just fine until a pair forms in the tank. After that, their numbers just start trending downwards...

I also feel that the female's are more aggressive than the males.
I had a trio of two males and one female. I know this because there were distinct differences in the fish especially the female. The males got along fine, both held eggs. The problem was after one male started holding, the female would court the other male and harass the male holding until he either ate the eggs or released them. This went on for about four months alternating males until one male disappeared.

As for the Trop and their multiple adult fish in the same tank, size matters. 1000 gallon vats must be the key. I expect that the behavior seen at the Trop is their behavior in nature.

Ok,, thanks for the info... I'll try to get a decent picture of them together this weekend and post for you.
