I soak my pump every month to five weeks. I have killed two magdrives from lack of cleaning them. Vinegar and time is what you need.

I perform a major tear-down every 4~6 weeks. Usually there are only a couple of spots of deposits and come off without much work. Vinegar and a brush or even a butter knife if it is stubborn usually does the trick. Good. luck.

Every once in a while, ok every day, my powerheads will throw out some chopped up calcium crud. Kind of looks like tiny air bubbles. Is that bad?? I guess I never really thought about it before.

its just a build up, and it says you have a lot of calcium so its not to bad. however it is bad for the life of your pumps. like i said i clean mine evey 3 mo's or so and they have lasted many years, some of mine are 9 or 10 years old, and still work great.
