I need to cover the back of my canopy so when i get wrasses they wont jump out! so how should i do this? i am going to have 3 fans in the back too, so i will have to make whatever i use go around them.

i had 2 ideas,

IDEA 1

i was going to do is use egg create and use nails or something to hold it in place, BUT is there to much room for a wrasse to jump out of my specifically a flasher wrasse? like 3 inches?

IDEA 2

or a mess type thing like what a screen door is makde out of? and then just cut around the fans and use nails to hold it in.

OK NOW which one will allow the LEAST AMOUNT OF TEMP SWINGS?????? i will have 3 fans in the back of the canopy and 1 on each side of the canopy. and then 2 fans in the sump. i will be using 2 250 watt reef optic 3 pendants. WITH NO CHILLER!!!!!!!

so which one will allow the most air through, and not make that big of a difference if nothing was there?

let me know guys! i am scared to use the egg crate just incase the holes are too big for a small flasher wrasse to jump out of!

thanks!

I use a section of plastic rain gutter cover used to prevent leaves from plugging the gutter up on houses. They sell them at the local hardware stores in 3 or 4 foot lengths about 6" wide. They are cheap, open like a coarse mesh screen, comes in different colors, and easy to custom cut for heaters, fans, etc.

hey mike i do have the tank and have the canopy done i will try to get a pic soon! and i will probably need your help plumbing pretty soon if everything goes good!

but yeah i want to cover the tank just to make sure i dont chance it, since i will have abou 5 wrasses a group of filmented flashers and a solar wrasse, i dont want to take the chance so you think the egg crate should be fine? are the holes too big though?

should i just use mesh stuff? of what?

I CANT AFFORD TO LOSE THESE FISH AS I WILL SPEND A GOOD 180 BUCKS ON ALL 5 SO I NEED GREAT I MEAN GREAT COVERAGE!

and i will haev to cut around 3 fans so remeber that too!

thanks!

would mesh be safe to use? it sounds easier to use than the egg crate easier to cut holes for the fans? but will i have a problem with the temp as oposed to going with egg crate to the mesh?

thanks!

BUT will gutter gaurd allow as much air flow as the egg crate, the big thing here is air flow i need it since i will NOT be using a chiller on a 180 with 3 reef optic 3 250 HQI lighting!

THEY can fit through those tiny holes in the egg crate? are you sure?

thanks!

the gutter guard mesh is cheaper than egg crate? that cant be right?

which one will allow for more air flow? the egg crate or that gutter gaurd mesh?

thanks!

Why can't that be right? The mesh will flow more air.

In response to your questions (again):

The gutter guard mesh is cheaper, easier to handle, cut, and attach, and will allow more airflow.
Eggcrate's about $10 or more a 2'x4' sheet.

GutterGuard is a few $ for a roll several times as long as you'll need.

The mesh will be probably be less restrictive to airflow, because of its thinner section.

The mesh I've seen is black ABS or Poly (plastic), and usually has smaller holes than eggcrate.

air circulation will not be a big problem with any of the three seeing as they all have many holes for air to escape now you have to decide if you fish is small enough to fit through the holes in the egg crate or not if he is then go with the gutar guard

you have enough fans to keep the air moving so no worries there
