keeping the lights off with only fix it for a day or two, I would try ChemiClean Red Slime Remover but follow the instructions exactly! It should help fix the problem but you may need better flow. Also check your parameters..............MY TWO PENNIES

I have never tried the lights thing but I have had cyano before that I treated with a product meant to eliminate this. I don't recall which one off hand but I treated twice and was successful both times with no loss of fish or corals. I would caution to read the instructions carefully if you try this because bad things can happen if not done correctly. My advice would be to check your water params and flow rates and correct those issues (if any) first. I have heard the light deprivation technique before but I would still check the above first because there is no downside to improving water quality vs chemical or light alteration.

Hopefully some others can chime in here with some additional experiences and advice.....

I did the three days of darkness. All but a small patch was gone. By that evening, it was like I never tried anything. ChemiClean was used and I have been cyano free since.

Chemiclean. That is the stuff I used. Remembered when I saw the other posts.....

Working off of memory but if it serves, this stuff is an oxidizer so it can deplete O2 levels if you are not careful. I think it recommends skimmer off. If I remember right, I ran my skimmer pump uncoupled from the skimmer to maintain aeration. If you end up deciding to use this, just follow the directions - don't cheat - and you should be ok.

Good luck, cyano can be a tough nut to crack.
