I spent the last 4 hours getting rid of virus/downloaders-browser hijackers-crapola on my hubby's computer. I hadnt updated his av for a few weeks. What a pain!!!Salvaged it though thank god I dont have to reload windows.
I feel for ya Mucho.
I keep av updated on my system and he accesses thru mine and I run a firewall but it still got thru.Guess I better be more careful about keeping his and my daughters computers updated.

I ran adaware and spybot and nortons and nortons online because it had disabled autoprotect and it wouldnt start back up. I had to reinstall nortons to get it to work again.
Let see-there was mhtmlredir.exploit, trojan.chost and downloader.trojan and another I cant recall at the moment. Plus it was installing crap FAST. Had to disable the network connection to stop it. It would reinstall everything as fast as you uninstalled it. Pop up windows like crazy. eZula and a bunch of stuff.
I dont get much in email-millenium filters most of it out and nortons catches the rest. Its the website ones that get his system cause he's a bad boy! Doesnt stick to respectable websites like this one!

I had the same thing happen to me. It was some stupid virus that switched your homepage to a search engine and if you tried to delete it there was some sort of super duper hidden file that would just reinstall it once you deleted the first one. That took a couple days to get rid of and it still isn't totally gone but at least MR is my homepage again. I hate that crap. Now I only go here and to hotmail and reefcentral.

My wife's computer was horribly infected with various adware/spyware. (kind of embarrassing considering the fact that I'm a security consultant for Symantec). I ended up running Spybot Search and Destroy, Adware, a full system scan with Symantec Antivirus 9 (found some stuff I had to remove by hand), updating her system and switching her browser to Foxfire.

I highly suggest that people having issues with this sort of stuff visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com and get updated. You should also consider locking down your Internet Explorer settings or switching to a better browser. I recommend Foxfire (www.mozilla.org).
