Anyone have one that can do 1 3/4"? I need to put a hole in my 20 gal refugium. Glass shop wanted $30, and they just called to tell me they dont have the right size. If anyone has one, let me know. )

You can do it yourself if you have a Dremel...go to your favorite hardward outlet, and buy a tile bit. Take your bulkhead and a marker and draw a circle where you want the hole. Take your Dremel and score around the drawn line. Now spraying water, (careful the Dremel is ran with electric current), work the bit back and forth about a 1/4 of a inch, until you have a hole through the glass. From the hole continue around the rest of the circle.
Dan drilled 4 holes in my 180 using this method.
The water cools the bit.

Not too far at all. Let me know when a good day/time is for you, I'd be glad to come over with my toys and play!!! I live in Hazel Park, work till 330'ish, so any night after say, 500 would work just fine for me....let me know!

Would you really risk an improvised method on a brand new or even in fact any tank of big size that would cost a prettty peeny. Plus if the LFS mess it up its all on them lol

maybe another stupid question....the "choose reefer"....what exactly is that and do I want it to be me????

Thanx for the compliments, though Mike. I do what I can to help. It's much better to have lots of friends than lots of enemies!!

Acutally Jason, most places dont guarantee they wont break it (not sure if LFS do, but I know glass shops dont). Since this is a 20gal, I could care less, but I can see being a bit more concerned with larger tanks.

Dan (aka Zepplin) put 3 1' holes, and a 1 1/2 inch hole in the 1/2 inch glass of my 180. It was very slick & quick.
Ask Dan about using the above method...I think it's harder to break the glass using this method.

UPDATE ON THIS THREAD

Me and Todd picked up a glass bit from Home Depot for 7dollars. We drilled 5times on a practice aquarium and then on his 30gallon glass sump. We drilled with water in the sump. the water was lowered below our drill, of course.

Here we were sweating for weeks on how to do it and damn if it wasnt drilled in 3minutes...
