Hi, i had another question about additives, i picked up some iodine last week, but i have been debating on whether to start dosing it or not. I hear it really helps with growth on softies, and algaes such as caulerpra and chaeto. But i wondering if it also contributes to the growth of unwanted algaes such as hair algae. As some of you may know i had a really bad problem with hair in my 180, and now that my 75 is setup im taking every precaution to keep it away. Because i do not want it back! lol So what are your guys thoughts about iodine? Also if you do dose about how much do you do daily, i heard of someone putting in a drop a day. Does that seem right?

Remember that alot of the food you put in tank has iodine in it, so if your a heavy feeder or you do alot of water changes, I don't think it's as nessesary. I put in a drop or two when I start to get closer to water changes in my 180g, but I don't dose it regularly.

With a high uptake of iodine, I can get by with 1 drop per day of Lugols in my zoo/shroom reef. Care must be taken when using Lugols as it is highly concentrated. There are some softies which can't tolerate iodine and they will perish in no time at all. I have never heard or read that excessive levels of iodine will cause an algae bloom of any kind. Iodine levels should never exceed 0.06 NSW ( Natural Sea Water).
