Have a new question I posted at bottom.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it goes.

I moved my tank to the living room and I had to plug into a regular two prong without a gfci. Ive already shocked myself due to a powerhead leaking voltage, and also a skimmer pump. Before they worked fine in a gfi, is this because it was grounded or because I just didn't notice.

How will a two prong outlet effect the tank vs a three prong gfi? What issues will I have?

if I got the equipment leaking voltage into tank gounded, would it still cause a shock?

Would a grounding probe be helpful on the two prong outlet?

Any other info will be helpful!

Thanks!

No its just a regular two prong outlet so i dont think it is.

I swear I think I might still feel the slightest shock. It could be some thing with outlet or power strip? I got a cut at work on my skin I feel a small tingle.

I dont know what to do, I dont want any fish or corals to die.

I dont think I had this problem before I moved tanks

You really need the GFCI, you just need to use 12/2 with ground the 12/3 is more for 220v. Just be sure its hooked up properly otherwise no better then you are now. Also in the mean time if your plug will fix you might try and turn the cord so the blades are in opposite from how are now might be the receptacle is also wired wrong along with being outdated.

I had all the two prong outlets in my house too and when I moved in, I changed all of them. Since I only had two wires, I grounded it to the metal box that you screw the plug into. I haven't had any problems and its simple to do. If start there first.....
