I was just wondering how hot 110w VHOs really get? I just wired mine up tonight and they even work! WHat I want to do is make the wires into 1 harness running down the center, under one of the tubes. These are URI bulbs if it makes a diffference. I have a 6" fan I *might* run on the canopy if I need to. I just dont want to burn the house down, or melt toxic goo into my tank when its setup. Thanks.

Vho bulbs really dont get that hot at all. As long as the wires arent touching the bulb, i really dont think there is much to worry about.

How far away do you plan to put the wires from the bulb?

I would say the wires will be 1/3 - 1/2" from the bulb.

i had my 4ft 110 watt vho monted to the canopy and the wires inbetween the bulbs and the canopy for about 6 months and never melted any thing i wouldnt worry about it

Keep an eye on it. Feel if the wires are that hot, midway through the day.

All wires are rated, most say it on the, cept small guage wires in fixtures. If it is the 16 or 18 gauge you should be fine, we run these right on ballasts in fixtures, ballasts get hot and never have problems.

Yep they are 18ga wires, its the factory harness from IC. I ran them a bit differently and only a few inches is under 1 tube. I can stick my fingers between the tube and the canopy so I should be OK. I might run a fan or 2 in the canopy just to be safe.
