i just got my first feather duster any words of advice for a guy? Also i thought that if you touvhed them the pull in i was moving him in the tank to find a place after he came out and he didnt pull back in at all.
feed him plenty of dt's. mine usually retract when ever anything goes near them. i have thousands of them and i will be selling batches of them at the swap.
I have had one of the haw for a while now, once they settle into place you won't be able to move near it without it retracting. As Will said, make sure you are feeding the tank some sort of phyto.
dusters are SO cool. I can just sit and watch mine for hours, gently swaying in the current. He kinda tolerates me near him, but if I put a tube or tongs near him, he's gone! My urchin is about the only thing in the tank that makes him retract. I have seen my peppermint shrimp crawling all around him, through the "feathers" and he doesn't even care.
you can even grow your own phyto. It is pretty easy. Just need a ordinaril shoplight, air pump and a few 2 litr bottles. I am starting my culturing area back today with the phto. I started raising the artemia last night.
Don't freak out when their caps (feathers) come off!! From my understanding (and personnal experience) this is a natural growth progression and they will come back in a couple of weeks. BTW, I don't feed mine anything special.
I have had the artemai for a while. I ordered it from brine shrimp direct. These have a 90% hatch rate. The Nanochropolis and Isochrysis I am just gettting the disk from FAF. The DT's I got was putried smelling so cant culture from that. As soon as I get enough culturing I will let you know.
Also be careful with that Phyto cause to much will give your tank a Nitrate Spike . And when you buy some new Phyto if you do. Always check the dates on it.
dont check the date that is misleading just smell it. if it stinks like bad eggs dont buy it, if it stinks like the ocean buy it lol. i have some good dt's if you want to take a road trip neo. you can check out my new plating monti i just rescued.
