I recently had a small foxface killed via powerhead in my reef after 6 long weeks in qt. While in qt the fish showed no signs of illness or disease.

I purchased a slightly larger foxface lo from the same LFS who was alert and active, took the fish home acclimated him to ph-adjusted water and freshwater dipped him using a little bit of melafix and added him directly to my reef.

I usually qt everything, but was a little frustrated because of the death and took into account the dependibility of quality of the fish i purchased from my LFS (no problems or deaths), the freshwater dip, low stocking, low aggresion tank, and Robert Fenner belief in risk of damage to this particular species during transport and retrasport. (wetwebmedia.com's forum on rabbitfish).

I guess I am seeking info on the dumbness of this act. Any foxface owner here do the same thing. I am sweating bullets because I went against my qt all fish belief. I hope the fish gods are looking down on me with mercy. Hopefully the fish will eat today.

I have had several Foxface over the years. They tend to be a little skitish. They love green and red seaweed. I never qt a fish I also wait a month or two before making the purchase. I use the buy and hold method a it seems to work. Foxface need a lot of hiding places and they will do just fine. I treat mine just like a Yellow or Purple tang. Be carefull when feeding that you do not get stung (painfull as h---). Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had two, one died with the poweroutage last summer and had been in the tank for 5 months very healthy. My other one has been in my tank since January. Neither was QT, they both loved any type of macro algae that I could give them. The current one owns the tank with a Purple Tang and Majestic Angel. They are really cool fish.

Seems to be eating well, alot. Always picking at algae off rocks and glass. Picking at seaweed selects. Has learned to come to top of water for flake food and has even ate some antibacterial flakes (just in case). Swims every where and has buddied up with my coral beauty following it around everywhere.

I did notice a few white spots yesterday (it has been 5 days in the tank). However, some fell off while the fish was swimming some didnt. Makes me think that it might just be stuff the fish picks up when swimming in and out of my soft corals.

I will keep a close eye on the spots and hope its not ich. I havent seen my cleaner shrimp service it yet, but the fish does go behind my rock structure where the cleaner hangs out from time to time. But like I said he is eating and swimming, yellow, rarely see him blotchy except at night when he is hiding out. Hopefully all will be well when i get home from work.

Sounds good!
watch the spots and add garlic to his food. If theres only a few spots and he's acting good then it may be early enough for it to help. It's supposed to boost their immune system so it will take a little time for it to kick in. It may also help any other fish in the tank avoid catching it if it is ich.

Most fish change colors-fade-get blotchy at night-dont worry about that.

You can feed nori instead of the seaweed selects-same thing and incredibly cheaper! You can find it in some grocery stores and in asian markets. Just get the plain sushi nori-not seasoned.
I soaked mine in garlic juice before putting it in. The fish love it.

Good luck

Well theres Kents garlic extreme which you can buy at most fish stores now, that is a garlic juice. Or you can find garlic juice or minced garlic in the seasonings section in the grocery.
All I could get at my grocery was the minced garlic so I put a little in a cloth and squeezed the juice out into the food. The Kents is much easier to use-comes in a little bottle with a dropper.
Be prepared-it stinks up the house and your hands. I mixed mine outside.

I have been thinking of exploring garlic anyhow, this is my excuse. How often should I use it, i couple time a week with a couple drops?
