i love get tanked reef salt i just did a 20% water change to see if i would notice a difference and i really do!!!!! everything looks greener all my mushrooms are opened up more, my frog spawns are huge wow really see a difference!!!!
he is also a new sponsor here I am trying to do a group buy at the moment in his forum. http://michiganreefers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=205 and his website is http://www.gettankedaquariums.com salt isn't for everybody as it takes a little more work recommended at least 2 days prep to properly mix the salt and Calcium is dripped separate slowly. other wise it precipitates or get cloudy but once it's added to the tank it clears up fast. but if done right it's fantastic.
it about the same price look it up you can buy it direct from him but i get it from sea shells, i dont know if its a new product. to be honest it really isnt more work it just takes a little more time but now i see its totally worth it!!

i always used instant ocean and liked it.i have about 100 gallons of water in my system and i do water changes every 3 weeks about 10% or 10 gallons. i have a 60 gallon tank, 6 gallons in sump and about 34in the fug with only 6 small to med fish so a small bio-load. this time i wanted to see what all the fuss was about with this "special salt". most things i do to my tank over time i sometimes see a difference but the next day after my water change i have never had a response like this WOW. i just found out that they just became sponsors here i didnt even know it. i get it at sea shells or you can get it online
You have to add the calcium seperately?? Never heard of that. Liquid calcium or powder??
I'd probably screw it up somehow with my lack of skill. Heck, I still don't even have a refractometer. This instant ocean hydrometer is horrible, good thing I took a water sample to the LFS and found out it was reading extremely high.
So what does a bucket of "Get Tanked" salt cost or is it in a bag?
its really not that hard and the calcium comes in like the fancy sidewalk salt in little pebbles. i dont have a refractometer ethier or am any kind of scienctist thats for sure
I've experimented with a bunch of different salt mixes and there is definately a difference between manufacturers. Different grain sizes as well as additives can make all of the difference. Some dissolve better than others, as well, some have better additives which help to keep some of your basic chem. levels stable (as many of you probably know). I've had good luck with Tropic Marin, Oceanic, and Crystal Sea. I may have to try Get Tanked at some point. Gonna do some research first.
polskareefer, I would look into a refractometer if i were you. Those hydrometers can be off by quite a bit and furthermore they lose their effectiveness over time. Once you know that you're spot on with your specific gravity, I think you'll notice a difference in your livestock as well. It's all about stability in this hobby. Glad to hear the new stuff is working well for you though.
my brother just saw my tank after a few days and asked what i did because things look way nicer and bigger.
on a side note i believe in buying once but also not going broke if i dont have to and what would you say a good refractometer is and how much should i expect to pay
Here's the one I bought. I like to purchase from our sponsors if at all possible. This one came recommended from Deb at DIYreef. So far it has worked really well for me. Yeah, it's a bit pricey but I figure I have way more wrapped up into my corals so it's worth it for me. Also, if you have to replace your hydrometer, which inevitably you will if you want to ensure any type of accuracy then eventually the refractometer would have paid for itself. That's my recommendation and I know a lot of other reefers swear by them too. As of now they are one of the most accurate things available to us hobbyists.
Get Tanked is a sponsor here his name is Garry all the salt is Organic mixed by Garry himself I talk to him on a regular basis via phone. Garry has a small operation a one man show put he only buys the best quality products Calcium Cloride is 94% to 97% pure compare that to others he carries supplements as well as salt locally right now Seashells can read only store in Michigan Carrying it! you can read more and order from Garry direct also at http://www.gettankedaquariums.com 10% off the prices for MR members just let Garry know. also the group buy if we work together we can get lower prices I will get Garry to chime in here as well.
I could use other salt at a lower cost but the quality is there imo I sau more but not sure anybody reading my post lol.. but nope your not crazy at all. almost everybody that ever used Garry's salt on there tank noticed a difference. :victory:
Hey I've been a believer since my first water change with gettanked. Looks like a reef on steroids! Now I don't have to spend extra on all the additives, because they're in the mix. Use to drip Kalkwasser, not any more. I just add Garry's calcium chloride using the dry dosage instructions. Everyone should know we don't make money selling salt, so I've got no vested interest.
Wish I didn't have so much reef crystal salt left to use, or I might try some of that salt out. Gonna take me a few months to get thru it all. Maybe next time.

I have a bunch of r\Reef Crystals. I got a really good deal on them, except EVERYTHING was better with gettankedaquarium.com salt mix.
At the suggestion of another reefer, I am going to reserve the RC for my QT tank, and go back to GTA. Lots of RC fans out there, so trade/sales should be easy. Just a thought.

I am getting my GTA salt from Michelle at Seashells. Lets say it is $15 for 25 gal mixing to 1.026 (No joke--unlike all the other brands I have used, "25 gals" =25 gals. That's about $16.90 with tax.
I change 32 gallons a month.
Gettanked:
$16.90/25= 68cents a gallon, delivered, tax included.
$5.44 per week.
$21.76 per month.
RC
DrF&S RC @ 29cents/gallon delivered (actual cost)
$42/150 gals, delivered.
$2.32 per week.
$9.28 per month.
So double the cost is double the cost, but, my little guys are worth it, things seem to grow better, and the system is easier to manage.

I am not sure about all the differences in the GTA salt, but here are some:
It is formulated from the ground up, to be used with filtered water. There is no need to add ANYTHING to it. (Lots of us make fresh seawater, and have to add the "additional calcium and alk to bring it up to snuff.")
The mix's volume (eg 5 or 25 gallons) is for 1.026, not 1.021 or 1.023.
***Excellent reef parameters****
Each individual bag (yes--every 5 gallon, 25 gallon pouch) is weighed and made individually. This should eliminate variation between batches.
Every pouch should be made up ALL AT ONCE. (Do not take "some of the mix" out of the bag :nono: )This Definitely will eliminate the variation from "the top of the bucket to the bottom" (Aka "my salt has gone bad.") You can mix 25 gallons of salt into, say a 5 gallon bucket, and draw off just the amount of the concentrate that you need. Mix it up to 1.026, or whatever you desire, with RO/DI then add 1 tsp of the calcium to the tank.) There is an additional thread about dividing the 25 gallon mix, here on MR.
The calcium is added seperately, at the time you add the fresh seawater to the aquarium. There is No Chance  of precipitating out valuable components of the seawater. Again--a source of Variation eliminated!
At the other end of the phone, th:buba_phone: there is a real person who takes 100% responsibility for his product.
My Bottom Line--
I see a difference in my livestock and I use less additives.
My wife's bottom line--
With a healthier system, it ends up being cheaper in the long run. -yes
It might be the "Ain't additives" as much as the additives. Whatever he does, the product is consistent and stable and all the livestock are happy.
