I know I know ... it's a good thing right. Well I was a little lax in my scrapping of one of the sides on my tank. That side is almost completely covered in pink coralin algae now. I don't mind, actually I like, that the back glass is getting covered, but I want to get rid of it on the side.

So I figure I have two options
1) Manually scrap it off some how. I can't seem to be able to do that though.
2) Get something that eats it. Like an urchin. Pros/Cons of Urchin
a) Pro Eats the algae.
b) Pro Possibly spreads the algae?
c) Con Eats the algae (will it out eat the new growth?)
d) When it eats the algae from the rock, does it scrap into the rock or just eats the algae on the rock?

Anyway, I was always so excited that the coralin was growing that I never really maintained anything but the front glass ... now I can't see through one of the sides of the tank. Any advice? (I do like the looks of royal urchins ... if anyone wants to lend me theirs ) ).

If it's a glass tank a single edge razor blade takes the stuff off pretty easy.

The urchin will eat the corallin too, but I wouldn't count on him to do it consistently or thouroughly enough to make a difference. On the glass at least.

An urchin would be cool and once Preuss gets a blue tuxedo urchin I am getting one. But, I doubt it would clean the glass well. Maybe patches and lines but not the whole thing.

Pro eats coraline off live rock clearing spots for other sponges and organisms to grow, which other inverts such as sea stars need to eat. Coraline algea prvents anything from growing on it.

Con knocks corals and rocks over if not fastened tight.

Pro very cool

Con very delicate and can cause big problems if they die.
