I have the nova extreme 4x 54w T5 and use the aquasun bulbs. They are very dim. Is there a fixture out there (not diy) that has a ballast that puts out good par with these bulbs?

No expert with T5s at all, but if the bulbs are our of the question and the wattage is the same, then would the only factor be the reflectors? I had a Nova before and I don't remember if they used individual reflectors.

ATI has by far the best fixture when it comes to output and running ATI bulbs. THe powermodule is a beast, and the sunpower is another good choice, although you get better bulb life with the powermodule. The new tek fixture with active cooling is a step in the right direction, but falls a bit short when compared to the ATI. The DIY with icecap parts is a good route, but you need to run a different bulb, the ATI bulbs are prone to shorten life spans. A good fixture is well worth the cash, look at Reefgeek for some pricing, George has helped me quite a bit, i have a 3 foot powermodule and 2 foot sumpower. He has always had good advise.

another option is updating the ballast in your current fixture to icecaps.
it will overdrive them, so overall life of the bulbs are reduced. this is common in many fixtures though.

if looking to buy new, check into fixtures that have fans incorporated into them, as heat also shortens life span of the bulbs. so make sure there is enough space between the bulbs for heat to disipate.

basically many fixtures on the market will give you the desired results you are looking for, but consider cost factor vs bulb replacement.
