Gum Drop Goby died today for no reason. water peramiters are good, any Idea we have had him sinse eraly october got him from a friend he had had it for a year or two. possibillity old age? how long do they live?

a lot of gobies only live 18 months to 2 years in captivity unfortunetly. Such a big family of fish too it is hard to get accurate data on any single spiecies. If you can google the scientific name you might come up with something more solid.

Unfortunately, if you're speaking of Caracanthus maculatus, commonly mislabeled as "gumdrop coral goby" or "gumdrop croucher goby," very little is known of their feeding habits, reproduction, or lifestyle in general. You'd also probably be surprised to know that this fish isn't related to gobies in the slightest. In fact, it is an obscure member of the scorpionfish family. So, if we were to look at the scorpionfish family in general to guess the animal's lifespan, it would probably fall between 7 and 15 years. So, lifespan may not have been the reason that your croucher died. I would like to know what you have been feeding it, your water params, temperature, tankmates, etc.
