Wondering how tall people are running there MH canopies.

I just made one 10" so the bulb is about 8" from the water. I'm going to install 2 fans and see what the temp maintains during the summer.

I don't really care for the look. It looks to tall. If the temps don't get very high, I'm going to build a new base with 8" (maybe 6") boards and re use the top.

btw, its holding 2 175w mh

Mine is 10", with about 7-8" for the lights above the water level. No probs other than the dark spots developing above the halides. Would the installation of reflector above them stop this problem or not? I really don't want to burn my house down one day because my corals want more light!!

What is the recommended distance from water to light? I am installing 2 250W MH and will be building a new canopy to do so. When you give dimensions are you talking from the water to center of bulb or the lowest point to it?

I just built my canopy, and I made it about 12 inches so the lights are maybe 10 inches from the water. The Fish Doctor told me to make a 12 in inch canopy on my 50 gallon. The least I would do is maybe 6 inches, but it is up to you.

Good luck.
