Is there anything I need to be worried about about mounting an Ice Cap 660 ballast inside of the heatsink directly to my oak hood? I'm under the impression that the heatsink will draw heat away from the ballast. I just want to make sure that the metal won't heat up enough to cause any damage to the wood or it's finish.

Thanks,
-Mike

I put usually put 1x1 spacers between the heat sink and the mounting surface. That way the sink has air all the way around it and can dissipate more heat. And running t5s on it there will be a lot of heat coming that ballast!

it will heat up but not enough to do damage to the wood. Are you ventilating your canopy in any fasion? If you are I definately wouldnt worry about it damaging your hood. you will get more heat from your t-5 lamps.

Yeah, I've got fans ventilating the canopy. I already attached the ballasts to the hood, so I guess I'll see how it goes...

Thanks for the input...
