Welcome aboard, Wings! (PS-you know he's gone to Annaheim, right???)[-hockey]

I can tell you what they are looking for....EVERYTHING!!! His fiance was pursuaded into setting up a tank who did that....!)[-censored] and they have never had one before. The tank is 55AGA with an iron stand (for now) and they are wanting to set up a reef-type tank w/corals, maybe a few fish.[-goldfish] (Hope this is accurate....?) Lights, PH, filter/skimmers, the whole shebang. I am trying to help as much as possible, but I am relatively new to SW myself, so my help is indeed limited [-dunce]compared to the sea of knowledge here!![-graduate] I told him this was the place to be, and here he is!

Welcome wingssf! I've put together a few reefs by buying off this board. My latest is an ongoing 60 gallon that I purchased almost everything second hand as a lot of people want larger reefs than their current equipment will allow. Good Luck.

Sounds like the first thing wingssf should do is some research. I know before I even bought my tank I spent many hours on reefcentral and then bough a book and read it cover to cover. There are some many parts of a saltwater setup to consider that without a general, global understanding a receipe for disasster is created.

I do want to say welcome to the site and you will find a tremendous resource here but I would caution you to not try to shortcut the system and setup your tank just from opinions (including mine) stated here.

HI Im fairly new to this sw world, but I have had tremedous luck. I started in Semptembr of this year. I started simple. Crushed coral(3"-4") sloped to the rear, with and undergravel filter. I went new with the lights, low watt compacts, two cheap powerheads to run the ug filter, and a whisper2 filter. Which has been redesigned as a skilter. Water, salt, and a couple cheap fish(Damsels) which are alive and well. After my first cycle I added basic cleaners, shrimps, snails, and crabs. Its been 3 months and I am starting off with coral frags, hope my patients lasts. This is basic plans for a tank setup, many variations you will hear and see. Good Luck , hope to see some pics someday!!
