I just picked up a Yasha Hase (Hashi ? ) Goby tonight.. It's my 3rd fish in my 75 along w/ a pair of percula clowns.... After acclimating him my clowns chased him around a bit then he settled in a corner of some rock... clowns are leaving him alone... The LFS said he hadn't eaten in the 2 days they had him.. He ate a couple good size Mysis and settled into his corner... and is just kind of sitting there..

Is this normal behavior after being introduced to a new environment ? I found some threads about them hiding for a few days when they were introduced..

Just looking for some feedback..

Thanks,
Aris...

Alot of the gobies can be quite shy, especially after moving to a new tank. You may want to find a shrimp for it to bond with, might help coax him out into the open a bit more. Of course some gobies will always be shy, may even go weeks without being able to find them in the tank on occasion.

May I ask what you paid for him, I'm not sure if I've ever seen them locally available. They're one of the more uncommon gobies.

Theres also the possibility that its ill. Do you have a qt tank just to be on the safe side? Thankfully it ate mysis when you offered it some, thats a good sign.

This is normal for the gobies. Eventually, thay will find a hole and make it a home. Make sure you the tank covered so it can't jump out. They have a tendancy to try to jump out, especially the first couple of times your light cycles each day. They startle easily. Once they find a home, they will stabalize.

Montoya has the right idea....find a pistol shrimp to keep him company. This symbiotic relationship helps the goby find a home and is very cool to watch.

Where did you find one? I have been looking around locally for the same fish without much luck.

Well he was $48.. however if you check my post Horrible morning you'll se he's no longer living...my fault... didn't child proof my heater...anyway.. I went out and got a pistol shrimp the next day and the shrimp excavated a home for itself then later in the day the goby was out inspecting the shrimp's lair...so there was progress... this loss is just so discouraging...
