I am looking for a place either close to work (Milford) or close to home (Fenton/Linden) that sells Live Brine Shrimp. The seahorses are hungry.

I was planning on getting it at Canine/Feline supplies in Milford, but they aren't able to get any right now???

I called a bunch of places in the Flint phone book, but none of them carried them.

For now I guess I will drive to Moby Dick, but that is about 45 minutes to an hour each way.

Any ideas? I just read on here about a places at 23 and 59, that is right on the way home, but I can't find a number to call them, are they still in business? ANyone know if they carry live brine?

Yeah, it will probably take about twice as long to get to Sterling Heights and back as to go to Moby Dicks.

I called Pet Provisions (the 23 and 59) store, they only occasionally carry it, and not right now.

Andy,
I know of a place that carries it that would only be a little bit out of my way on my way home.
I could pick you up some on my way home tonight and you could come pick it up from me (I live in Grand Blanc). Let me know if you are interested

John,
That is a tremendous offer. Thanks, but I just called Moby Dick to make sure they have some and was planning on driving there, I could use to pick up some other stuff as well. The problem is I usually spend about $100 everytime I am there.

Andy,

May be a dumb question but ever try raising them yourself? It really isn't that time comsuming if it is something that you are going to use alot. Just a suggestion, I used to try to find Baby Brine but then just found it easier to harvest them myself.

Just and FYI there are some great sites that show you how to do it and all the pieces that would be needed.

Just a suggestion.

I have tried that before. I never had much luck, it seemed I would only get about 5 shrimp out of every batch - not enough for anything. It wasn't worth the mess and hassle. I have heard that is about the norm, the commercially available eggs just don't seem to be very good.

Do you usually get a decent yield?

That's shouldn't be true. You should be able to get hundreds of brine going on each batch...easily. If you want to raise them to adult sizes, grow some phytoplankton for them to feed on. Harvesting your own batches is your best bet...I don't know any store that keeps brine shrimp on a regular basis. You should order what you need from Florida Aqua Farms, that's the best advice I can give you.
P.S. If you order from FAF get their small phyto combo, (book + fertilizer + Nannochloropsis phyto disk) and high quality brine eggs.

Andy,
Good deal. Let me know in the future if you need some and don't want to drive over there. The place is up East of Birch Run and I drive I-75 home. It would give me the opportunity to stop by there, which I don't do quite enough.

Let me know!
Regards,
John

Matt, I have tried several times, the best I get is maybe half a dozen shrimp. I just must not have the touch. If the local shops in Milford/Hartland are out. I'll just head to Moby Dick's. They always has live brine on hand. I've been going there for years, that's the shop that got me hooked on this expensive hobby. Tonight I got there just as they were unpacking their shipment. They just got several different types of macroalgae that they have never carried before. If anyone is interested.

John, I know that place near Birch Run, I used to go there sometimes when I lived in Grand Blanc, off Belsay Rd. It's next to a campground or something isn't it?

A co-worker told me about the store at the corner of Duck lake and M-59, I alos got your e-mail about it. Thanks, that is much closer.

But from some other reading it seems brine shrimp, live or not, are not the best nutrition. So I am working on weaning them off it, and onto some better, and healthier frozen stuff.
