Just completed a 6 week major overhaul on my entire system from top to bottom. Did a little tweaking on my system last Tuesday before my lights came own when all of a sudden, something............, I have absolutely no idea what is was, came swimming across my tank like a bullet. I mean the thing was fast as lighting. It was 1 inch long with a neon pink oval head and a yellow eel-like tail. It was swimming for sure. It swam across the full lenght of the tank at the water line, then it made the same loop at mid-tank level and then it darted back into a rock. I have never heard, read or seen anything remotely like this. It blew me away because it had the same colors as a Diadema, but I am 200 % sure it was a fish. It didn't have a dorsal or pectoral fin. I haven't seen it again. By the way, the tail was ribbon like, just like an eel.

Searched all of my books and the net and nothing even comes close to it. Anyone with an idea what it is? When it comes to my zoos, I have to know what is living in my tank before I have to pull out the 40 cal.

Mucho I seen a post on Rc with somthing about a situation just like your. It mentioned some thing about these fish living inside cucumbers and when they mature they eat the cucumber and then live in the rocks. The link is attached below.

That sounds pretty freaky Mucho.........I think it would have taken me a few minutes to recover from seeing that little critter zip through the tank like that.

Oh no, that's not it. This thing is very colorful, stunning I would say. Neon pink and lemon yellow, crazy I tell you.

I read the same thing in one of the books I have, I would of freaked if I would of seen that fish come out of a cuc. It's amazing how wonderful our tanks are. You can always discover something new. I hope you find out what that is, and hopefully its not harmful.

I'm positive it isn't a fish. It looked like a fishing lure. Just unbelieveable, I'm still baffled. It had a completely oval head, it moved too fast to see any eyes. It had no fins at all and the tail wiggled like an eel or a fishing lure. I haven't seen it since the first spotting.

Do you know where its hiding spot is? Which rock did it come from? Did you buy anything new lately? Just trying to help you find it.

It came out of the right side of the tank, did its thing and shot around the back. All of this took place in about 5 seconds. I'm sure it came inside a recent purchase, but what scares me is that I did a 6 to 7 minute dip on those pieces. What ever it is, it survived a fresh water dip loaded withy Lugols iodine. My only concern is what it is. I have set up 3 traps in my tank each night to try and snare the little Lochnest Monster.

Wow! The fish Rob is talking about was called the cuccumber butt fish over on RC.

Some things to think about:
1) If you can identify which region your new stuff is from, ie Figi, etc, you might be able to narrow down the search.
2) Some 'nicer' video cameras have a motion detection record option. Do you have someplace to put the fish that are currently in your tank? That way you could set up the camera to tape when there is movement in your tank.
3) Make sure you have all your fingers after you are done putting your hand in your tank.
4) If you hear a voice coming from your tank, get out of the house. Don't investigate, just run.
