Hello all, just started to use a two part system from brs to raise my magnesium, the 2 part from brs mixes clear, I mix it according to the lable which is 5 cups/3 cups in one gallon of to water, I let the gallon sit in my sink in hot water to help it dissolve. Afterwards it's clear.
With having a 300+gal system it can get expensive to supplement, so I bought some mag flake and food grade Epsom salt, the mix remains the same, afterwords the where as the brs solution would be clear after, the mag flake is milky, and if I let it sit it seperates half milky half clear... So my question is, for those of u who have use this what have u experienced while and after mixing, I haven't used this solution in my tank yet cuz it just didn't seem right....
Red Sea mag kit says my mag is 760 or lower, I tested some fresh mixed reef crystals and got a reading of 1200 ppm... Thanks in advance.... Nick.
what amount of Mg are you trying to dissolve in what volume of water? Randy Holmes-Farley's 2-part recipe is a good source for dosing Mg (as well as the Ca/Alk parts)

The DIY stuff is cloudy when mixed and will settle out as you describe. I shake the gallon up prior to dosing. The directions recommend adding it slowly as it will also cloud up a little where you dose. I've been using it for years and it has never caused any problems. If your Mg is down in the 700 range be sure to raise it slowly... over a couple weeks.
Exactly who I was looking for a reply from lol... I dose using the brs dosing pump so it's a slow drip, I was adding the brs solution at a gallon over 24 hrs every other day, it barley rose...
Brs calculator says I need 515 fl oz of supplement.... Or 4.23 us gallons... Seems like a lot...
I too use randys recipe with the same results. if you have ever bought a gallon of tech M it looks the same as when you make it with randys recipe. right now im dosing 500ml every other day in a 500g system. 1ml per system gallon will raise your mag 100ppm ,if I remember correctly!
I just saved the recipe article to my desktop so I don't lose it . I only use this recipe for my a,b and c. its too much money to dose a system as big as 500g any other way.
