I would say you probably need to skim the 1st inch and a half and place seperate from your bottom. Then move all your botton into the new and level it out , then add the good stuff
i did it one also. and the procedure is pretty much like jason said but skim the top 2" off first and place it in a bucket. then scoop out the rest put it in first. then let it settle a little(just so you can see a little better and level it out) then spread the top layer in the bucket out on top. turn the big pumps off for a couple os hours so it will settle better. then turn them on one by one and slowly so you dont blow to much around.
I would set up a temp place for them , get some SW water going so when you make the move its conditioned. I would say the animals shouldn't be put in there til about 8 hours later till you can see probably atleast half way in the tank
a temp. bucket with a few pieces of rock and a power head and heater and such. i filled the bucket with the water i was draining from the existing tank. i then the next day took out as much water as was in the bucket and added them with the water into the new tank.
