I have 12 or so mangroves in my sump. What I do is float them in a piece of styro. I put the pods in a hole and let the roots just hang that way I can move them out of the way when needed. Seems to work well

I have a 30g refugium growing 3 mangroves. They arent the fastest growing for me but I do believe the really help with nutrient export. All of my levels are zero and have been for about 2 months. My new tank is only 4 months old now and just teeming with little critters in there as well. They also make a nice environment if you would like to have a couple seahorses in the refugium too. They love to hang on the roots. Would post some pics but my digi camera broke (

What kind of lighting do you use? I was wondering if you could have too much light over a refugium? This tank was a grow out tank for corals and I will have a single 175w MH over it.

Oh, and I noticed Dr.'s Foster & Smith were selling them at $11.99+ shipping. Does this seem to be the going rate?

I've seen/heard of mangrove-incorporating filter systems...but did I just hear/read correctly, that nitrates and ammonias can be kept at zero solely via mangrove setup? or is the mangrove thing worked into an existing system of some kind such as sand, live rock, and mangroves?
