We're in the process of checking into upgrading due to some work being done in our home -- flooring needs to come up, walls painted, etc. So, we figured we might as well upgrade.

Went for a drive yesterday out to Preuss' and saw a Marineland 300 Gal DD and fell in love with the dimensions. After all the dreaming we've done over night, I decided to do some Google searches and found that these tanks seem to have a high rate of failure due to seam breaks or glass giving out...or at least back around 2012-2014.

Does anyone have experience with these marineland tanks? We're waiting to hear back on a custom job, but from other reading I've done (i.e. Reef Savvy, Miracles) it sounds like it could be 6 + months for a tank to be built! I need to get my current set up out (180 gal) so all other contractors can come in and do painting/put in new floors and we can't really wait that long. 4-6 weeks for the stand and canopy is plenty enough time to wait since the 180 will need to be moved to either the garage or basement...and garage is not temp controlled.

Anyone have thoughts on these DD tanks?

Thanks!

Glass is great.

In large tanks I'm all in for acrylic though. Chemical bond between panels is stronger than the mechanical bond between glass, at least perceived as such. That's enough for some to sleep soundly.

Plus the overflow can be completely flush if you want it that way.

and the clarity without the upcharge to low iron.

I'd opt for (and soon will be my own upgrade) for acrylic. Midwest in MN gave me a decent quote on a 8x3x2 in ¾.

best of luck with the upgrade.
