I need someone with a standard 55 gallon glass tank to measure the inside of the black plastic. on the top of the tank there is that black plastic support I need the measurement of open space from inside to inside for the width of the tank as accuarate as possable 1/16ths if possable.

11 7/16th inches as far as I can tell. (Could be 11.5 inches, but the difference is only a 32th or so, but you wanted as detailed as possible!)

Just be careful different tank MFG might have different size trim etc.

Great point Ken. I made that mistake making a canopy and I was off 1/8 of an inch. I couldn't figure out why. I measured and remeasured and reremeasured only to find out that I had measured a different brand of tank.
